Title: “Geochemical assessment of mineral potential and environmental status of Fennoscandia and NW Russia”

    • Main aim and geological tasks:
    The main purpose of the project is compilation the Atlas of ecogechemical maps in the scale of 1:5 000 000 of the north-western Russia and adjacent countries in order to clear up an environmental status and mineral potential on territory of north-western Russia, Finland, Scandinavian and Baltic countries.

    The NEG project covers about 2.2 million km2 area and includes territory of 7 countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, NW Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania).

    Main geological tasks:
  • Compilation an integrated database
  • Compilation maps of zoning by natural condition and human activities
  • Compilation of composite maps of elements content and their natural and technogenic associations in different geological media studied
  • Preparing final ecogeochemical map and map of ore geochemical anomalies in the scale of 1:5 000 000 on territory of NW Russia and adjacent countries
  • Assessment of mineral potential, compiling map of anomalous geochemical field (AGP) in the scale of 1:2 500 000 and allocation of perspective areas on territory of eastern part of Baltic Shield and it's frame with Russian plate
  • Recommendations for compilation ecogeochemical maps in a small scale and final report (explanatory notes to the Atlas)


    • Project plan:
    Year 2006. Project planning; developing and infill the project integrated database; compiling set of digital base including map of zoning by natural conditions and map of human activity for the whole project area.
    Years 2007 - 2008. Preparing set of composite geochemical maps, their interpretation, compiling the “Atlas of ecogeochemical maps in the scale 1:5 000 000 on NW Russia and adjacent countries” with explanatory notes
    Publishing of the Atlas is not included into the project plan. It will take about half a year extra, and will be discussed later on the final stage of the project activities. It is considered to be published bilingual (English and Russian).
